Birthplace of Galileo Galilei, Pisa is one of the six towns of Tuscany for the population and is part of a territory with similar characteristics, called the Pisa area, which with the neighbouring municipalities of Calci, Cascina, San Giuliano Terme, Vecchiano and Vicopisano, comes to form an urban system of about 195,000 inhabitants spread over 475 km².

Also with a 4,800,254 passenger traffic in 2015, Pisa hosts the most important airport in Tuscany, "Galileo Galilei". The history of Pisa began in the 9th century B.C. when Pisa was an original settlement of Alpheus, a civilization that, subsequently merged with the Etruscans.
In the 2nd century. B.C. this culture was then absorbed by the Romans who built Portus Pisanus.

Among the most important monuments of the city there is the famous Piazza del Duomo, known as the Square of Miracles, declared World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral, built between 1063 and 1118 in the Pisan Romanesque style and the Leaning Tower from the 12th century, today one of the most famous Italian monuments in the world because of its characteristic tilt.

The city is home to three of the most important universities in Italy and in Europe, the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Superiore Sant' Anna, and one of the CNR locations and a number of other institutions of research.

Pisa is about 70 km from Villa La Cappella.
