Certaldo is one of the tuscan’s best known cities of art where Boccaccio was born. Beautyful!

Inhabited since the Etruscan times, the name Certaldo derives from the Latin phrase "cerrus altus" or from the Germanic, "cerrus aldo", meaning "a rise covered in oaks".

It was the home of the family of Giovanni Boccaccio, the poet of "Vita di Dante", and the author of the "Decamerone". He died here at his home and was buried here in 1375. The town of Certaldo is divided into upper and lower parts.

The lower part is called Certaldo Basso, whilst the medieval upper part is called Certaldo Alto. in the lower part of the town the are supermarkets, very good restaurants and pizzerias, shops, banks with ATM and 2 pharmacies. In the upper part you find very good restaurants, smal Italian shops and bars.

Certalo ist about 8 km from Villa La Cappella.
